There is a well-established understanding - the Porvoo Agreement - between the Baltic Lutheran churches and the Anglican Communion. This year our own links have begun to flourish. In October the bishop of the Diocese of Espoo (near Helsinki, Finland) came for a long weekend with two of his senior clergy, to explore the possibility of a diocesan link. We hope to take this further in 2010, when there will be opportunities for sharing concerns such as youth work, use of the internet and interfaith matters.
Olaus Petri church, Orebro, Sweden has a large number of church workers and 25 of them decided to spend their autumn study break in Edinburgh. We gave them a good overview of our diocesan life. They visited the diocesan offices where they heard about spirituality and being a lay reader. They also spent time at the Cathedral, Waverley Care, the University Chaplaincy, Holy Trinity Haddington, St. Baldred’s North Berwick, and St. Peter’s Galashiels and attended services at Old St. Paul’s and St. John ’s, Edinburgh. We all enjoyed their visit enormously and look forward to further contacts.
